The Central Asian Administration
Jessup Central Asia is about much more than the National Rounds in February. It is a community that grows throughout the year, through universities, teams, coaches, judges, alumni and volunteers across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
Throughout the year, we help students across Central Asia discover the Jessup and become part of it. We do this by building relationships with universities, supporting participants, organising the Central Asian Summer School and other events where people can learn, meet and share their Jessup journey.
Meet the team
Salimjon and Elmira jointly lead Jessup Central Asia.
They are responsible for strategic planning, the development and promotion of the Jessup across the region, and engagement with universities, legal professionals, alumni, partners and other stakeholders.
They also coordinate the work of the Administration and serve as the region’s principal point of contact with ILSA.
Diana recruits, trains and coordinates the bailiffs and volunteers who support the Central Asian Rounds. During the competition, she oversees their work, handles operational issues and helps keep the courtrooms and wider programme running smoothly and on schedule.
Our work throughout the year
Our work is not limited to organising the Central Asian Rounds. Throughout the year, we promote the Jessup across Central Asia and help universities develop the knowledge, experience and institutional support needed to establish lasting programmes and make participation a university tradition.
We also keep former competitors involved as coaches, judges and volunteers, allowing their experience to strengthen the community and support those who follow them.
The Central Asian Rounds are the cornerstone of our work and the point at which our year-round efforts come together. Delivering them requires months of careful preparation, with every decision guided by our aim to give students a fair, well-organised and rewarding competition experience.
We select and work closely with the host university, support teams with participation requirements, recruit and brief judges, and prepare the competition schedule and pairings.
During the Rounds, we keep the competition on schedule, ensure that each courtroom is ready, coordinate teams, judges, bailiffs and volunteers, and address procedural issues as they arise. After the final pleadings, we confirm each country’s national champion and submit the results to ILSA.
The Administration’s work is entirely voluntary and unpaid. We know firsthand how the Jessup can shape a student’s path and create relationships that last long after the competition ends.
Jessup brings together the brightest people from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, creating a community that reaches beyond national borders. We give our time to make that experience available to more students and to keep this regional community strong from one generation to the next.
Join the Administration
Jessup Central Asia is growing, and we are looking for volunteers who want to contribute to its development across the region. The work extends well beyond organising the Rounds. Volunteers help widen access to the Jessup, strengthen the community around it and build the partnerships that will sustain its work over time.
Previous Jessup experience is welcome but not required. Administration members cannot compete for their university in the current or an upcoming season.
Plan the social programme for the Central Asian Summer School and the Central Asian Rounds, creating opportunities for participants to meet beyond the classroom and courtroom.
Build relationships with universities and other stakeholders across Kazakhstan, introduce new institutions to the Jessup and support their involvement in the regional community.
Develop relationships with law firms, businesses and other potential partners whose support can strengthen the Central Asian Rounds and assist teams advancing to the International Rounds in Washington, D.C.
Keep alumni and supporters connected to Jessup Central Asia through events, communications and networking, and create opportunities for them to mentor and support current participants.
Serve as a central point of contact for participating teams, helping students, coaches and team advisers find the information and support they need throughout the season.
Manage our website and social media channels, share news from across the community and help more students and universities discover Jessup Central Asia.
More than one person may share a role. If you would like to contribute in another capacity, we would also be glad to hear your ideas.
To apply, send us a brief letter introducing yourself and explaining how you would like to contribute.
